Former cocktail mixologist Greg McLaughlin found a job with the perfect blend of ingredients – helping customers to achieve their dream home move and providing expert advice to housebuilders.
While his role as an account manager at Property Perspective may be a far cry from his former summer job on a cocktail bus, Greg has built on a penchant for property during his three years with us.
As the company has grown, so too have Greg’s responsibilities and he now specialises in assisting developers with maximising their part exchange and assisted move schemes.
For Greg, every day is different and often presents new challenges. He supports and advises customers from the point at which they decide to put their property on the market and is often the first port of call for developers and purchasers should any problems arise.
He said: “I help to give customers confidence when they come onto the market and provide trusted advice throughout their journey to a new home. There can be surprises along the way and having someone in your corner to help negotiate can make all the difference.
“I keep all parties up to date to help meet the reservation deadlines for exchange. In some cases, while working on new build sites, I meet buyers on completion to hand over the keys. Sometimes, I’m even the photographer for that ‘new home photo’”
Greg has become particularly adept in handling part exchange properties, which can be seen as ‘higher risk’ for homebuilders.
He added: “Part exchange can mean there is a higher risk for the developer as they are buying in a property without a purchaser lined up, but I can recommend specialist surveys as well as action plans to get more difficult properties sold. Having built strong relationships with developers during my time as an account manager, they trust and appreciate my knowledge in this area.”
At 29 Greg has had a “strong mix” of careers before moving into his role in property. After completing a degree in media writing, he initially worked for an FM radio station in Sunderland, before returning to his home town of Manchester and working as a mixologist in cocktail bars and running special events.
He then enjoyed a stint on a property magazine researching stories about the Yorkshire and North East property markets before bringing the invaluable knowledge he’d gained to his role at Property Perspective.
Greg, who lives in Manchester City Centre, balances his work life with a passion for mixed martial arts and Muay Thai boxing.
His drive to find a career he is equally passionate about stemmed from a piece of careers advice he was once given: “Set your goal and always move forward.”
His current role is one that brings Greg huge satisfaction. He added: “I’ve always enjoyed the moment of telling a buyer their offer has been successful. The excitement when it’s their first time! Sometimes you hear a scream down the phone to their family.”
He has now helped hundreds of new home buyers to find the property of their dreams yet his advice to them remains strictly practical: “Make sure you have a good solicitor and do your research on where you are buying!”
